Usage rates for bath bomb colourants

Usage rates are there to keep our customers and your customers safe. However this does not mean you have to use how much or how little we suggest. You do need to keep the amount under 3% though. The measurements we provide are a suggestion, and are what work for our recipe, and may not work for yours. You may need to use more or less. That will be up to you to decide through trial and error.

Turnaround time

We are a small operation but are growing quickly and are getting busier by the day. We most often get things out next day, but it can take longer and depends on different factors like if there has been a sale or a holiday. If there has been a sale or a holiday it will take longer for your package to ship. We appreciate your patience. You can email and ask turnaround time if you need to know before you order.

  • ULTRAMARINE BLUE 4oz

Ultramarine blue is a classic true blue color in soaps. It is very concentrated, therefore starting at the lower end of the suggested use amount and adding more is recommended. If too much is used it can stain washcloths or make your bathtub blue!

For melt and pour soaps, add ultramarine blue to glycerin before adding to your soap. For cold process, mix in oils before adding to your soap. This will help disperse the product and help to avoid speckling.

Flash White Pearl mica is a  shimmer white that will be a shimmer white in cold and hot process soaps. It is a great color to use when sparkle white is needed. It truly is the color of pearls. It can also be used in place of titanium dioxide, but the result will not be nearly as white as plain Titanium Dioxide. In clear melt and pour this an ideal replacement for TD when a hint of shimmer is desired.

Recommended use rate in cold and hot process soap is 1 tsp. per pound of oils. For melt and pour, the recommended use rate is .5 tsp. per pound of base. To use in bath bombs polysorbate 80 must be used. Use polysorbate at half your oils. For example, if you use three teaspoons of carrier oils, now use 3 tsp of oils and 1.5 tsp. of poly 80. If your bath bombs are too wet, decrease the amount of poly and carriers oil by the same ratio. The addition of polysorbate will prevent staining or a mica powder ring around the tub.

If used at about 2 teaspoons per pound of oils in cold and hot process, this mica will give your soaps a subtle shimmer. Used in clear melt and pour the shimmer effect will be much more dramatic. This is a mica that should be in every soaper's arsenal!

Recommended use rate in cold and hot process soap is 2 tsp. per pound of oils. For melt and pour, the recommended use rate is .5 tsp. per pound of base.

FRUIT GREEN mica is a RICH green mica that holds true in cold process soap. This mica has a very high shimmer effect and is much more beautiful to the eye than can be captured in a picture! It will have a high shimmer in cold process, and will appear sparkly in clear melt and pour.

Recommended use rate in cold and hot process soap is 1 tsp. per pound of oils. For melt and pour, the recommended use rate is .5 tsp. per pound of base.We cannot recommend our green and blue micas for bath bombs, since the color additives contained in them (chromium oxide green and ultramarine blue) are not approved by the FDA for use on lips or other mucous membranes. Although bath products have historically been considered externally applied cosmetics, bath bombs are different because the product is put in the bath and there is prolonged exposure to mucous membranes.
